Everlast Advanced Composite Siding VS HardiPlank Fiber Cement Siding

Right off the bat, homeowners in Massachusetts looking for home siding options are becoming increasingly interested in composite siding.

Two composite siding manufacturers on the market today that customers ask for are James Hardie and Everlast Advanced Composite Siding.

Both manufacturers make a “composite material.” But what are the actual differences between HardiePlank, also known as fiber cement siding, and Everlast Composite Siding?

In addition, how much does each composite siding cost?

And lastly, which composite siding product offers the best warranty and is the right fit for your home?

What Are The Differences Between Fiber Cement Siding and Everlast Composite Siding?

Fiber Cement Siding And How Its Made

A significant distinction that makes fiber cement siding differ from Everlast composite siding is the make-up of the product.

Even though they are both considered composite siding, HardiePlank, also known as fiber cement, uses cellulose fibers in addition to sand and cement.

The cellulose fibers, sand, and cement in the HardiePlank siding increase swelling probability. The swelling happens once moisture or water penetrates and mixes with cellulose fibers, sand, and cement.

For example, pieces may have to be cut to size when installing fiber cement siding. After cutting, each end needs sealing. Suppose the contractor sealing the ends does not do it properly. In that case, water infiltration will deteriorate the siding, causing it to swell, damaging the surrounding siding and eventually the entire wall.

Also, homeowners need to note that absorptive claddings, like fiber cement, constantly need to be maintained and sealed to ensure all cracked or pealing sections — no matter what.

But, hold on. Isn’t composite siding supposed to be a solid and durable product that’s maintenance-free? Yes, and that’s where Everlast Composite Siding comes in.

Everlast Advanced Composite Siding And How Its Made

In a nutshell, Everlast Advanced Composite siding and its accessory line highlight some of the best characteristics of modern-day, premium home siding. But, how is Everlast siding made?

Everlast is a triple-composite formula, unlike fiber cement siding, incorporating the paint color directly onto the substrate. The formula is a variety of inorganic minerals, polymer resins, and acrylic colorants sourced with US materials

During the manufacturing process, the materials are formed into planks sealed with a highly durable and fade-resistant acrylic layer called Cedar Touch. This will prevent fading on any Everlast siding colors

Chelsea’s cutting-edge manufacturing process makes Everlast siding impermeable and resistant to breaking, fading, and wood-boring insects.

Additionally, Everlast’s composite siding is a legitimate maintenance-free siding option, and that means you can install it and never touch it again — minus the occasional hose down.

Sealing the cut-ends on Everlast siding is unnecessary, so there is nothing to worry about during installation!

Also, as previously stated above, the materials used to make Everlast are impermeable. As a result, Everlast will never swell, bow, rot, or contract.

As you see here, the management company tasked with this Everlast Composite Siding installation in Winthrop, Massachusetts, stands firmly behind the product saying;

“When we initially discussed the project with the building owners, I refused to use fiber cement again,” added Hall. “It’s simple, and I won’t have callbacks if I use Everlast® siding.”

Cost Difference Between Fiber Cement Siding and Everlast Composite Siding?

How Much Does Fiber Cement Siding Cost?

A common question many homeowners have in Massachusetts is how much HardiePlank fiber cement siding costs. Usually, the cost heavily depends on the house’s size and complexity. But in this case, the product is also a crucial factor.

Fiber cement siding costs in Massachusetts can be anywhere between $18.00 – 20.00 dollars per square foot. The price per square foot factors in the material and installation of the cement board siding.

Additionally, it’s important to note that fiber cement requires special tools during its installation. These tools are needed to cut, size correctly, and hang each cement board panel.

Suppose the contractor neglects to use the proper tools. In that case, the contractor risks the possibility of voiding the manufacturer warranty and causing extensive damage to the house down the road.

How Much Does Everlast Advanced Composite Siding Cost?

After our salesman meets with homeowners that request an estimate on HardiePlank fiber cement siding, we also encourage them to take a look at Everlast Composite Siding.

Everlast Advanced Composite Siding costs in Massachusetts can be anywhere between $15.00 – 17.00 dollars per square foot. The price per square foot factors in materials and labor. Additionally, the cost per square foot includes Everlast’s PVC trim for all windows, doors, facia, and rakes.

It’s been Reliable’s go-to composite siding solution for the past four years, and as Everlast like’s to say, it’s taking the premium siding market by storm!

And, get this! The only special requirement for installing Everlast siding is to use screws and brackets. These screws and brackets come standard, so the price per square foot stays the same.

Also, no need to worry about added labor! Installing Everlast with the screws and brackets won’t add any significant time to the installation process, meaning the labor cost stays the same.

So, Everlast Composite Siding requires minimal maintenance and cost less money than HardiePlank Fiber Cement siding? The answer is yes! Now, let’s compare each warranty!

Best Warranty Between HardiePlank Fiber Cement Siding and Everlast Composite Siding?

What Type Of Warranty Does HardiePlank Fiber Cement Siding Have?

James HardiePlank fiber cement siding offers homeowners a 30-Year limited warranty. The limited warranty only extends to the first retailer that purchased the product, such as a contractor and the original homeowner.

Furthermore, homeowners that plan to sell their homes can transfer James Hardie’s limited warranty to the next owner, also known as a transferee.

HardiePlank’s warranty states that the fiber cement siding complies with ASTM C1186 and will resist damage caused by hail or termite attacks. Furthermore, the warranty says the cement siding will be free from manufacturing defects in material and workmanship.

Let’s look at what HardiePlank fiber cement siding doesn’t cover.

The limited warranty is just that, a limited warranty and may not cover what you think it covers. James Hardie 30-Year limited warranty will not cover damage or defects that result from or in any way to the following:

  1. The improper storage, shipping, handling, or installation of the product, including, without limitation, failure of the product to be installed in strict compliance with the Conditions of Limited Warranty outlined in Section 3 of this Limited Warranty and improper installation of studs or other accessories);
  2. Neglect, abuse, or misuse; Repair or alteration;
  3. Settlement or structural movement and movement of materials to which the product is attached;
  4. Damage resulting from water infiltration;
  5. Acts of God include, but are not limited to, tornados, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, severe weather, or other natural phenomena (including, but not limited to, unusual climate conditions);
  6. Efflorescence, peeling, or performance of any third party paints, stains, and coatings;
  7. Growth of mold, mildew, fungi, bacteria, or any organism on any surface of the product (whether on the exposed or unexposed surfaces);
  8. Lack of proper maintenance

It’s important to note that these warranty claims will be under the sole discretion of James Hardie.

What Type Of Warranty Does Everlast Advanced Composite Siding Have?

Everlast Advanced Composite Siding provides homeowners a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

The lifetime warranty covers siding only installed on single-family homes. The lifetime warranty is no longer active as soon as the house sells or the original owner passes away.

Additionally, second-hand home buyers also make out on the warranty!

Once the home sells, the only thing the new buyer needs to do is write a transfer of ownership letter to Chelsea Building Products. This letter will allow the new homeowner(s) to carry a 50-Year Prorated warranty from the date of the original documented installation.

The Everlast warranty states the siding will resist damage caused by termite attacks and will not rot or delaminate. Homeowners and contractors have spoken about the durability of the products in previous Everlast siding reviews.

Also, the Everlast siding is impermeable against excessive color change, flaking, cracking, peeling, blistering, rusting, and corroding.

Now let’s go over what the Everlast Composite Siding warranty does not cover.

  1. Chelsea Building Products will not be liable for, and the warranty will not cover any failure, defects, or damages resulting from or connected with misuse, damage caused or created by animals, neglect or improper storage, or improper installation.
  2. Chelsea Building Products will not be liable for the impact of foreign objects, fire, hurricanes, lightning, tornado, or other violent storm or acts of God.
  3. Failure of the homeowners to provide normal maintenance to the products (refer to Everlast normal routine maintenance) Distortion, or warping due to internal, external, or unusual heat sources, including, without limitation, reflection from windows, doors, or other objects, barbecue grills, fire pits, and fireplaces.
  4. Inadequate roof ventilation will cause heat build-up, possibly affecting the siding.

It’s important to note that warranty claims are at the manufacturer’s discretion.

What Composite Siding Is The Best Fit For Your Home Siding Replacement?

Now that we have gone over some of the differences in each product’s make-up, cost, and warranty, let’s decide which composite siding is the best fit for your home project!

HardiePlank fiber cement siding has been around for years, and it’s proven itself. But, as technology becomes further advanced, products become more advanced.

This technological advancement is why Everlast Composite Siding is superior to HardiePlank fiber cement siding. Its triple composite formula of resins and inorganic minerals makes this composite siding stand up to anything — besides excessive heat, of course.

In addition to its seamless look and its aesthetically appealing profile, the price point is cheaper than HardiePlank, and its performance, in our opinion, is far more excellent!
